About

About Asbestos by State

Asbestos by State is a free reference from Directory Assistance Group. It points homeowners, building owners, and contractors to the official asbestos program in each state before demolition or renovation.

Why this site exists

A renovation can require an asbestos inspection even when the building looks ordinary. The federal demolition and renovation rule and the state licensing rule are published in different places, and the notice often goes to a state air agency or a local health department.

This site collects those official starting points. It names the agency, links the program page, and explains the usual split between inspection, abatement, and worker protection. It does not sell removal and it does not rank contractors.

How to use it

Open the state where the building stands. Read who must be accredited, then open the official page linked on that screen. If a fee or a roster is not shown, the official page we checked did not publish it.

If you spot a moved form or a new agency name, send the official link. We update the page after we can verify it.

Who writes it

Asbestos by State is published by Directory Assistance Group, an independent publisher of free lookup tools and directories, and is written and maintained by a small editorial team. We are not lawyers, engineers, doctors, or government officials, and we do not claim to be. What we do is read the primary sources (statutes, agency guidance, university extension publications, and official court and health-department pages), turn them into plain steps, and link every claim back to where it came from.

How the site is paid for

The site is free to use and is supported by advertising, clearly labeled featured listings, and a few Amazon affiliate links. Advertisers do not choose or review our topics, and payment never changes what a guide says or the official details we list. Read our editorial standards for how we pick sources, correct mistakes, and keep ads separate from content.

Tell us what we got wrong

Rules change and local details vary. If you spot an error or an out-of-date figure, please send us a note with a link to the source. We read every correction and date-stamp the fix.
