State rules
Asbestos rules by state
Asbestos work is split between federal rules and a state or local program. The National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants require an inspection before many demolitions and renovations. States then decide who may inspect, who may remove material, and where the notice is filed. Open a state to see the agency we verified, the official program page, and what to ask before a contractor starts. Fees and phone numbers appear only when that official page published them.
